Professional Master’s in Health Evaluation
The Professional Master's Program in Health Evaluation at IMIP, recognized with a CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel) grade of 5, was approved by CAPES in 2009.
The first academic year began in May 2010 with the Professional Master's Course in Health Evaluation. A new class starts every two years.
The institutional context for the development and consolidation of the Program at IMIP is favorable.
IMIP has the Health Management and Evaluation Study Group (GEAS), registered with the Directory of Research Groups of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) since 1999.
This group represents a field of research and training in the area of health evaluation, composed of doctors, masters, and specialists who are part of the permanent and collaborating faculty of the Postgraduate Program in Health Evaluation.
GEAS works on the theoretical and practical development of the health evaluation field.
It carries out its activities in partnership with national and international institutions, with the following areas of action:
- Development of teaching and training activities, promoting the technical capacity of health professionals;
- Carrying out and advising on the production of studies and research;
- Acting as a collaborator in the area of monitoring, evaluation, and management processes for health organizations;
- Development of institutional evaluation activities;
- Dissemination of knowledge in the field of evaluation and management;
- Development of integrated actions with other research groups at IMIP and other educational and research institutions;
- Contribution to the institutionalization of evaluation practices, focusing on the health sector in the country.

Objectives
General Objective
To train qualified personnel for teaching, research, and planning and management of services in the field of health evaluation.
Specific Objectives
The Professional Master’s Course in Health Evaluation has the following specific objectives:
- To train masters in health evaluation with competencies and skills to perform evaluative work, emphasizing its incorporation into institutional practice at various levels of operation;
- To disseminate knowledge, methods, techniques, and work instruments in the area of health evaluation.
Research Line
Evaluation of Health Interventions
This research line aims to support national health policies, oriented by results, which generate a growing need for the qualification of researchers/evaluators with the basic competencies required to meet this demand.
Its main objective is, therefore, to adapt different types of evaluation to the various areas of action and specificities of health programs and services.
The prioritized methodological approaches are guided by:
- A participatory approach;
- The contextualization of programmatic actions;
- The internal and external validity of research devices (theoretical modeling, study design, observations, and measures);
- Standards that guarantee and document the quality and usefulness of their products through meta-evaluation;
- The articulation of knowledge incorporation into the innovations and professional practices of these interventions.
