Infrastructure
IMIP has several laboratories available to the entire graduate program, including the Master’s in Palliative Care, such as:
Clinical Analysis Laboratory, Pathology, Molecular Biology and Immunophenotyping, Telemedicine, Imaging, and Translational Research—all with well-structured physical spaces dedicated to IMIP’s research.
The IMIP Telehealth Center (NTES-IMIP) works in partnership with the professional master’s program, supporting intra- and/or inter-institutional demands. Highlights include:
-
Forums – The forums support the master’s program by providing an environment for discussion of the content covered in the classroom. After discussing projects and problems, students use the virtual environment to exchange content and collaboratively build projects.
-
Development of Technical Products – Together with NTES, technical products are developed by faculty and students, such as videos, online courses (EAD), and apps. Additionally, Professor Bruno Hipólito (an external program participant and NTES staff member, with a Master’s in Education from the Pernambuco School of Health), who has a background in informatics and technology, actively participates alongside professors Flavia Orange and Jurema Teles in the courses: Technical Products and Design Thinking/Lean Thinking. It is worth noting that IMIP was a pioneer in master’s thesis examinations by involving professors from other centers, including international ones, virtually through teleconferencing in pre-defense committees.
-
-
Exchange
The professional master’s program benefits from the partnerships of IMIP’s graduate programs (both stricto sensu and lato sensu) as a whole, and therefore maintains a close relationship with the Teaching and Research Departments, integrating undergraduate students and scientific initiation students (PIBIC). IMIP has a long history of cooperation with institutions such as the Ministry of Health and Science and Technology, PAHO, and WHO.
With the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS), IMIP has established mutual cooperation to promote the exchange of experiences and the joint execution of projects through a network of Collaborating Centers, aiming to improve mechanisms for regulating supplementary health care offered to the Brazilian population.
-
Integration with Society, Services, and the Labor Market
Integration with society is reflected in the profile of the program’s graduates, faculty, and students, and their involvement in the job market, health and educational systems, and society as a whole. The master’s program is committed to training health professionals with comprehensive knowledge in the field of palliative care assistance and research, enabling them to work in teaching, research, technical-scientific development, scientific production, and continuous improvement of their work environment.
Faculty, students, and alumni participate actively in both public and private health sectors through educational, care, and management activities. Several faculty members hold positions in various institutions such as technical chambers of regional and federal professional councils, state committees, and the Ministry of Health, as well as participation in scientific and representative societies and editorial boards.
-
Social Insertion
The social insertion of the program is undeniable and there is a commitment to continually expand it, considering the objectives of a Professional Master’s degree. The Health Residency enables this insertion, which is further strengthened by the activities of the Professional Master’s program.
Thus, insertion is evidenced in activities such as: training qualified human resources in management and evaluation; preparing professionals qualified to work in the matrix support activities of Residencies in other states, such as Maranhão and Bahia (with IMIP acting as the promoting institution); and through collaboration with other Brazilian graduate programs via researchers from its core faculty.
-
Internationalization
It is important to highlight, however, the particularities of a professional master’s program where the vast majority of students are enrolled in a health residency program with a mandatory workload of 60 hours per week and a standardized set of activities. This imposes limitations on the possibility of long-term internationalization; nevertheless, students are continuously encouraged to engage in international activities in various ways.
The program promotes short-term internships, especially what we call optional rotations. Additionally, other shorter activities such as participation in events, presentation of papers, articles, and development of projects through distance learning (EAD) have been actively developed and strongly encouraged in collaboration with international agencies and institutes.
